Le Syndicat des journalistes Gambiens (Gpu) élisaient samedi 8 septembre 2018 son président. A l’issu d’un vote calme et démocratique shérif Bojang Jr a été élu président de cette organisation syndicale créée en 1978 par un certain nombre de journalistes dirigés par le regretté MW Dixon Colley et ses co-fondateurs, MM. Pap Saine , Deyda Hydara et Melvin B. Jones.
Avec 46 voix shérif Bojang Jr est passé largement vainqueur devant son adversaire Modou Kanteh qui a obtenu 16 voix. Cette élection, première du genre après la chute de Jammeh, s’est tenue en marge du congrès triennal de cette association qui compte plus de 200 journalistes réguliers et indépendants travaillant dans les médias en ligne et écrits.
